Rwanda Projects 6% GDP Boost from Artificial Intelligence — Minister Ingabire at WEF 2025

Davos, Switzerland — January 2025
At the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Rwanda’s Minister of ICT and Innovation, Paula Ingabire, announced that the country anticipates artificial intelligence (AI) could contribute up to six percent of its GDP in the coming years.

Speaking during a panel on digital transformation and inclusive growth, the Minister highlighted Rwanda’s ongoing efforts to integrate AI into key sectors including healthcare, finance, agriculture, and public administration. She emphasized that the government’s roadmap for AI adoption is designed not only to drive economic growth but also to promote ethical governance, skills development, and equal opportunity.

“AI offers Rwanda a unique opportunity to leapfrog traditional barriers and accelerate progress across industries. Our goal is to use technology to empower people, expand digital jobs, and position Rwanda as a leading innovation hub,” Ingabire said.

The Minister underscored Rwanda’s commitment to building an enabling environment for digital investment, noting that the country’s regulatory framework and partnerships with international institutions are already advancing responsible AI deployment.

The announcement aligns with Rwanda’s broader Vision 2050 agenda, which prioritizes digital transformation as a cornerstone for sustainable economic growth. With ongoing collaborations involving the World Economic Forum, the Digital Cooperation Organization, and private technology partners, Rwanda is setting a model for other developing nations looking to leverage AI for inclusive prosperity.
